Joyce y su taller
Como parte del proyecto SiMBiOSiS con Fronda, fui invitada a impartir un taller para niños. Me decidí a mostrar a la clase cómo hacer un libro artístico con una hoja de papel. Comenzamos discutiendo sobre los animales que viven en México y Canadá, y cuáles de éstos migran de ida y vuelta. Varios de los estudiantes tenían fotografías con ellos para utilizar como referencia.
Pintamos cada lado de un color diferente, así que describí la diferencia entre colores “calientes” y “fríos”. Mezclamos todos nuestros colores de los 3 primarios: rojo, amarillo y azul.
Con algunos de los estudiantes, fui capaz de describir cómo un arco iris era la manera perfecta de recordar cómo mezclar colores… Recordando el orden de los colores en el arco iris – que es: rojo/naranja/amarillo/verde/azul/púrpura. Uno puede recordar que rojo y amarillo producen naranja, que amarillo y azul hacen verde y que rojo y el azul crean púrpura.
El amplio rango de edad dentro de la clase presentó algunos desafíos. Estuve muy agradecida de tener a Elena Barba conmigo para hacerse cargo de los estudiantes más jóvenes, dado que ella es una maestra excelente y había varios juegos para realizar con ellos. Leo y Verónica también fueron muy útiles y agradezco la ayuda adicional.
Desde mi punto de vista, el taller fue bastante exitoso, dado que todos los niños completaron sus libros y creo que aprendieron algunas cosas nuevas en los 2 días. Parece haber una avidez en Pachuca por aprender y compartir tiempo con los artistas. El Proyecto Simbiosis ha sido muy exitoso en ponerse en contacto con esta comunidad y llegar a enriquecer y fortalecer estos lazos, tanto dentro de este proyecto como para el futuro.
Artists Book Workshop
As part of the Symbiosis project with Fronda, I was invited to teach a kids workshop. I decided to show the class how to make an artists book out of one sheet of paper. We started off discussing the animals that live in Mexico and Canada and which of these migrate back and forth. Several of the students had pictures with them to use as reference.
We painted each side a different colour, so I described to them the difference between ‘warm” and “cold” colours. We mixed all of our colours from the 3 primaries, red, yellow and blue.
With some of the students I was able to describe how a rainbow was a perfect way to remember how to mix colours… by remembering the order of the colours in the rainbow – which is: red/orange/yellow/green/blue/purple. You can remember that red and yellow make orange, that yellow and blue make green and that red and blue make purple.
The broad age range within the class, presented some challenges. I was very grateful to have Elena Barba with me to take charge of the younger students, as she is an excellent teacher and had several games to play with them. Leo and Veronica were also extremely helpful and I appreciate the addition help.
From my point of view, the workshop was quite successful as all of the children completed their books and I think they learned some new things over the 2 days. There seems to be an eagerness in Pachuca to learn from and share time with the artists. Symbiosis has been very successful in contacting this community and reaching out to enrich and strengthen these ties, both within this project and for the future.
